So this was a control detail I had to deal with.
Story behind it, there are two large existing HX (HEX-1 & 2) and they want to add a another HX but its a completely unrelated HW loop as the existing pair. The grand idea, well we will just scab the new HX on the existing pair and put a two position 8" control valve on the new exchanger. So lets tap in after the existing 1/3 & 2/3 control valves serving the tandem HX. Existing valves control on HW loop A supply temp and the new two position valve will operate to HW loop B which is totally unrelated to to loop A.
They didn't want to shutdown the system, didn't think they had the room or time to add another proper valve setup. Explained there is not a chance in hell I'm two positioning a 8" steam valve on a HW HX for a multitude of reasons. Even a modulating valve piped as shown was a slow motion train wreak. In the end, new 1/3rd 2/3rd valve setup was put in.
