Using Trend Lon controllers in Niagara

With Trend discontinuing the xtend Lon to Ethernet gateway the old Lon controllers are nearing the end of the road.

These are almost always installed in their native Trend mode, which in a nutshell abstracts all the native Lon addressing and such. The downside is they require either a 3xtend or the newer xtend to communicate with the rest of the system over Ethernet. If that fails and a replacement cannot be found, Huston we have a problem.

The IQL series controllers where released ~2003 and sold up until a ~2010 when a major tsunami hit somewhere in Asia and toasted the supply of a key component. At this point, it was a good run but its likely time to think about upgrading them at some point.

Anyway, I'm sure sites with these installed will be looking for some bandaid when their xtend dies and they cannot communicate to these anymore. They are Lonmark devices but as typical with Lon devices they can be a pain to work with, have hidden gotchas, etc.

Here is a post on working with then in Niagara, what to expect far as available points and what to do if you need to switch between Lon managed & their native Trend mode. Will be tracking down the other xif & resource files for the full range of IQLs soon and add them to this post when I get them.
